The quake occurred at approximately 3:21 AM local time, registering a magnitude of 2.2 according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The epicenter was pinpointed at coordinates 0.4° N and 110.21° E, located about 11 kilometers beneath the Earth's surface.

"Considering the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred is classified as a shallow earthquake due to the activity of an active fault," said Tony Agus Wijaya, Head of the Manado Geophysical Station, in a statement received by reporters on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

However, getting there is not without its challenges. The journey typically takes around four hours due to the condition of the roads, which can be rough and unpaved in certain areas.

Fortunately, access is made easier by daily bus services that run from Sanggau to Balai Sebut, passing right by the hot spring. For those planning to visit, the trip offers an opportunity to experience the stunning landscapes of East Kalimantan, from dense forests to open fields. The route can vary, with travelers choosing between direct paths or scenic detours through Mukok and SP-4.
