Exploring Sekadau’s Growth Through Book Discussion

BORNEOTRAVEL - SEKADAU: On December 11, 2024, the Keling Kumang Institute of Technology (ITKK) in Sekadau hosted an engaging book discussion event.

The book discussed was titled Indeks Pembangunan Manusia (IPM)- Kabupaten Sekadau, Kalimantan Barat, Akar, Masalah, dan Intervensi untuk Meningkatkannya (Human Development Index /HDI - Sekadau Regency, West Kalimantan: Roots, Issues, and Interventions to Improve It.) 

This book is the result of research conducted by four ITKK lecturers.

The researchers behind this book are Stefanus Masiun, Masri Sareb Putra, Adil Bertus AS and Laurensius Tobing.

The aim of this study was to thoroughly examine the HDI conditions in Sekadau Regency. Meanwhile, the purpose of publishing the research results was to provide valid and useful information. This would serve as a reference and guideline for policymaking and practical actions to improve the HDI of Sekadau Regency in the future.

Purpose and Benefits of the Published Research Book 

This research highlights the various challenges faced in improving the quality of life in Sekadau. The book also offers concrete solutions to address the existing problems.


During the book discussion event, several discussants from relevant agencies were present. These included representatives from the Central Statistics Agency (Badan Pusat Statistik - BPS) Sekadau, Sekadau Hospital, the Health Department, and the Education Department. The presence of these discussants was crucial because they play a key role in data collection and analysis related to HDI.

The discussants provided valuable input to deepen the understanding of the root causes of HDI issues in Sekadau. They contributed to discussions on strategic steps to improve the quality of life in Sekadau. 

The discussion resulted in practical recommendations that can be directly applied to development policies. These recommendations cover key sectors such as education, healthcare, and the economy, which are essential in improving the HDI.

The book consists of 198 pages printed on 100-gram HVS paper. It is printed in color to make it easier for readers to understand the data and information presented.

After the book discussion, the book was distributed to various relevant parties and stakeholders in Sekadau Regency. It is hoped that this publication will serve as an important reference for government agencies and related institutions in designing policies.

With this book, it is expected that the relevant parties can take effective, concrete steps to improve the quality of life in the community.

The book also suggests various interventions to address the existing issues. These include improving the quality of education in a more equitable way, increasing access to healthcare services, and strengthening the community's economy through inclusive empowerment programs.

All these recommendations aim to create better conditions for the people of Sekadau. With the implementation of these interventions, Sekadau Regency’s HDI is expected to improve significantly in both the short and long term.

A Guideline for Development Policy 

This book is highly relevant as a guideline for formulating development policies. With this book, the Sekadau Regency government is expected to design more targeted and effective programs. It is also hoped that this book can serve as a source of information for other institutions focused on human development in Indonesia.

Through the recommendations provided, the goal is to foster collaboration between the government and the community to achieve more inclusive and sustainable development goals.

This book discussion event has become an important moment in raising awareness about the significance of HDI for the progress of Sekadau Regency.

All parties involved are expected to work together to realize the existing recommendations. This will contribute to the advancement of Sekadau Regency in terms of human development and the well-being of its people.
